The Colombian federation said that it had not authorised anyone to represent the country at the Friendship Cup in Perm
The Basketball Federation of Colombia (FBC) did not receive any invitation to participate in the Friendship Cup tournament in Russia. This is reported on the organisation's Instagram page (owned by Meta, which is recognised as extremist and banned in Russia).
The federation's displeasure is related to the match that took place on Wednesday at the Friendship Cup in Perm. The local Parma team defeated Colombia 155:53. After the game, Colombian coach Jorge Basquez said he felt guilty about the triple-digit score difference.
The Colombian federation said it did not receive invitations to participate in the Friendship Cup, nor did it give anyone permission to represent the country at the tournament in Russia. The Colombian Basketball Federation will take legal steps to punish the unauthorised use of the national team image and logo.
On Thursday, 22 August, the Colombians will play against Venezuela at the Friendship Cup at 14:00 Moscow time. The tournament, in which the Russian national team is also taking part, will end on 26 August.
The Russian national basketball team has been suspended from international federation (FIBA) competitions since 2022 after the outbreak of hostilities in Ukraine.
