US Ambassador to Moscow Lynn Tracy has left Russia on personal business, the press service of the US embassy told RBC.
"The ambassador is out of the country on a planned personal trip. She is going to return to Moscow at the end of the trip," the embassy told RBC.
Earlier, Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov said that Tracy had temporarily left Russia. According to him, this was reported to the Foreign Ministry some time before the final decision on the issue of invitations of ambassadors to the inauguration of Russian President Vladimir Putin on 7 May. Ryabkov specified that the US chargé d'affaires remained in Russia.
Thus, Ryabkov explained, the American ambassador will not be present at the inauguration ceremony. However, diplomats from other Western countries, including France, Hungary, and Slovakia, will be present to "keep open channels of communication" with Russia. Germany and many other EU members, as well as Britain, have declined to attend because of the ongoing hostilities in Ukraine.
